Funding for all

Need small grants for a classroom project?

Dreaming of attending a conference, numismatic or otherwise?

The Liberty Cap Foundation was started by an iconoclast, Walter J. Husak, who fell in love with 1794 US Large Cents. To honor Walt and his core belief in accessibility and access to learning, we offer two kinds of funding: 1794 microgrants (worth $1794), and scholarships.

1794 Microgrants

For the microgrants of $1794, you do not need to be affiliated with a college or university. We just need to hear what project or experience you plan to embark upon using the funds. We’re excited to read your application!

Types of Funding

Scholarships

For the Walter J. Husak scholarship, you do need to be affiliated with an accredited college or university, and your project should echo the goals of the Liberty Cap Foundation—to further an appreciation of cultural artifacts and the stories they tell.

How it Works

Investments fund our microgrants and scholarships, so as the investments fluctuate, the amount we can give away will vary.

At the beginning of each calendar year, we will announce the number of scholarships and microgrants available for that year.

Scholarship applications will open in March and close in April, with funds distributed in August.

1794 microgrants can be applied for year round, until that year’s funds are exhausted.

The Liberty Cap Foundation team reads and evaluates your applications.
